You can access all of these tools at this link – Course 3 Tools.
• Synthetic Hair
This is a relatively cheap way to practice your method. We use this hair to backcomb and create extensions from scratch. The downside is that this hair has a “plastic feel” to it, however it’s close enough to normal hair for our purpose of getting you trained.
• Human Hair
Human hair isn’t perfect, but it’s much closer to the hair you would experience in the real world. Human Hair is often processed with silicone, giving it a slightly “plastic feel” as well. Virgin hair will be the most realistic, as it is unprocessed. However, you will be paying a premium for virgin hair and it is often still very silky feeling. The hair you interact with on a normal human head will be a bit rougher than the hair we’re using for practice.
• Extension Holder
The extension holder with the suction cup is an incredible tool for our purposes here. I was skeptical about using this at first, but it turned out to be a great product. This is by far the best thing you can use for holding the hair that you’ll be backcombing.
• Carabiner or Keychain Ring
These are an alternative to the extension holder, or a backup solution. We use either of these to hold the hair to an attachment point in order to hold tension while backcombing. You don’t have to use a carabiner or Keychain Ring, but you will need something to attach the hair weft to.
• Multiple Metal Combs
The metal comb two pack we list is great because it gives you a backup comb. Many new trainees bend the teeth of combs as they’re learning. If you’re going to be doing a lot of backcombing you may consider having 4 combs.
