• Backcombing is not necessary for Afro Hair
Backcombing is usually not necessary for Afro Hair. However, in some situations it may be helpful. Afro Hair has such a kinky texture that the hair locks up very easily. You can think about backcombing and crocheting as a way of facilitating many tiny loops to lock up, similar to how Afro hair already is.
• Sometimes it can help thicken up the dreadlock
In some cases backcombing Afro Hair can be beneficial. Sometimes it can help thicken up the dreadlock. Just be aware that this will also shorten the dreadlock.
• 95% of the time I don’t backcomb Afro Hair
I can’t remember the last time I even backcombed Afro Hair. I think i’ve used it just to thicken up thin hair in the past, and that’s the only reason I’ve ever backcombed Afro Hair.
• Don’t take this course if you’re only working with Afro Hair
If you’re ONLY taking these courses to learn how to work SOLELY with Afro Hair, there’s not much of a point in taking this backcombing course unless you’re just curious. However, if you have the intention of installing dreadlocks in non-Afro hair or creating non-Afro extensions you’ll absolutely need this course.
