• Mannequin Head and Clamp
Even if you have a willing friend, using a mannequin head is probably your best option to start out with. You will likely spend hours practicing with a mannequin head first. Then you can move onto a friend if you’d like.
• Rat-tail comb
A simple tool used to create accurate lines and sections.
• Clips
Having clips is absolutely crucial. “Normal” clips don’t grip dreadlocks well, but the ones we use are excellent for wrapping around multiple dreadlocks, even thick ones. I would recommend an absolute minimum of 4 clips, but having more than that is very beneficial in some situations when working with very thick hair.
• Hair Ties
With most straighter hair textures you’ll need at least one or two hair ties for tying up the hair. Afro hair and very short hair won’t apply to this, you’ll likely just use clips for those hair textures.
• Rubber Bands
You’ll need a large pack of rubber bands. I personally do not like elastics since they don’t retain their elasticity if you overstretch them.
All hands on and verbal explanations.
