• Patterns in Various Hair Cuts
We have a whole section in our training for working with all sorts of hair cuts, this includes Undercuts, Mohawks, Sides shaved, Back shaved, and skills that can be applied to other cuts you might find.
• Brick Pattern
The Brick Pattern is probably the most widely used and universal patterns for dreadlocks. We use it for the overwhelming majority of our installations. In our opinion, it’s the foundation of
• Fish Scale Pattern
Learning the brick pattern first really helps you transition to the fish scale pattern. You can literally turn the brick pattern into the fish scale pattern just by scooping out the top two corners.
• Hexagon Sectioning
This type of sectioning isn’t far from the fish scale pattern. You can approach it the same way, you’ll just want straight lines instead of a curve along the top, that’s about it. But it’s best to start with the brick pattern and apply that same pattern to the hexagon pattern.
• Diamond Sectioning
I rarely use this pattern, but if I do it’s usually for undercuts or mohawks. It works well if the client doesn’t want the “block” look. Even though it’s nothing but blocks, it’s on a 45 degree angle to the head which is what makes it the “diamond” pattern. I’d say this is the easiest pattern to create.
• Triangle Variations
There are several ways to create triangle sections. Everyone’s favorite is the “starburst” version. But you can also “stack” triangles. There’s a lot of room to play with triangles. Just be careful about creating sharp points with triangle sectioning.
• Rough Finger Sectioning
Looking for a more natural look? Just determine your size and use your fingers to roughly make sections shaped as close to a circle as you can. It really can be that simple.
• Get creative, there are many ways to do this
If you have the time and patience, you can just keep playing around with different patterns on your mannequin as long as you don’t actually lock up the hair on the Mannequin.
