• Our Philosophy and Approach
Our philosophy and approach towards dreadlocks is to provide the most universal and effective methods and products with the least amount of unnecessary extras. To put it another way “how can I have best dreadlocks, with the least amount of maintenance, and the least amount of products?”. The answer to that question is the Instant Locs Crochet Method paired with a really good shampoo. That’s it! That’s all I’ve done for 8 years with my own dreadlocks and that’s how most of our clients deal with their dreadlocks as well. The only major exception is that some people need a moisturizer of some sort.
• Methods and Techniques in these courses
The core method we teach is the Instant Locs Crochet Method with optional advanced courses that all build upon those core skills. The only other methods we teach are sectioning, backcombing, and palm rolling which are the foundation for starting new dreadlocks, especially in non-Afro hair textures.
• What we don’t teach
We do not teach you how to twist or interlock dreadlocks. We do use a latch-hook for a few small tasks occasionally, but it’s a very minor portion of our training. And at this point in time, and the foreseeable future, we do not teach you anything that will be accredited towards a license.
• Is this for you? Yes if…
If you’re looking for a method that works with ALL hair textures. If your hair is extremely stubborn and you need a method that works no matter what. If you want to avoid messy products. If you want to be able to get maintenance and still wash your hair or swim soon afterwards. If you want a method that is more gentle on your scalp compared to twisting or interlocking. If you have issues that salons haven’t been able to fix like loops, zig-zags, wispy ends, skinny spots, or extensions that slip out. If you have a scalp condition and you need to avoid products. If you want to avoid the “braided” effect that interlocking often causes.
